Deborah Kornblau applies the Alexander Technique in teaching people of all ages how to use their body more efficiently, eliminating pain and tension and encouraging the body’s natural healing processes. She guides students with her hands in a highly skillful, sensitive and supportive way, allowing each individual to rediscover his or her innate natural harmony and poise.
We all develop habits of moving and breathing that can, over time, cause or exacerbate pain and stress. Athletes, dancers, performers, and office workers alike share the potential for having unconsciously contributed to aches and pains. By practicing the Alexander Technique, chronic pain and fatigue resulting from such bad habits can be effectively addressed without surgery or drugs. Let your body heal itself!
Deborah Kornblau, a certified teacher of this century-old approach, works with her students in simple movements such as sitting, standing, walking, and lying down. She uses guiding touch and verbal cues to encourage greater body awareness, the release of unnecessary tension and the experience of effortless movement and breathing. This process is pleasurable and uplifting and restores the body’s natural harmony, coordination, and self-healing power.

Return to yourself by harmoniously reconnecting body and mind
Deborah sees the Alexander Technique as a complement to many other healing modalities; it picks up where therapies leave off by teaching individuals how to use their bodies intelligently during every moment of daily life.
As a violinist and computer user, she knows from personal experience what it means to rediscover the joy of living in one's body after many years of pain and limitation. Deborah found that the Alexander Technique relieved her pain and restored her vitality in such an intelligent and liberating way, that she wanted to become a teacher in order to bring this self-empowering gift to others. She is also inspired by knowledge from her study of Eastern and Western philosophy and spirituality.
Deborah completed her teacher training at the Urbana Center for the Alexander Technique (Urbana-Champaign, Illinois), a 3-year intensive training program leading to teacher certification. As part of her training she assisted in teaching Alexander Technique at the University of Illinois Department of Dance. She is a member of the American Society for the Alexander Technique (www.amsat.ws).
“I started having acute back pain every time I stood up after putting on my ski boots, and that worried me. At my first lesson with Deborah, she guided me with her hands and taught me an intriguing and fascinating new way of bending over and standing up. Ever since then, my back has not bothered me any more, and I’ve been skiing regularly!” - G.J., Realtor, Santa Fe, NM
“When I first came to you, 3 months ago, my back was giving me agony and I didn’t know what to do; but now it’s not a problem any more. The other day I happened to look in the mirror, and suddenly noticed that my back looked long and straight, not lumpy like it used to look.” - M.K.S., College Student and Dancer, Champaign, IL
“Your hands are so gentle and non-obtrusive, but at the same time they have very clear, strong direction. They have a healing quality that is very powerful.” - C.W., Musician and Body Worker, Santa Fe, NM
“During my Alexander lessons I have amazing experiences that I never imagined were possible—such as the experience of moving without any effort, as if the movement was happening all by itself. It’s like Zen for the body.” - E.J., Teacher, Santa Fe, NM
